Mission Statement. The General Henry Knox Museum (dba Knox Museum) serves to honor the life and times of General Henry Knox and the heritage of Montpelier.
Founded in 1985 by distinguished citizens of Thomaston, Maine, The General Henry Knox Museum is dedicated to increasing understanding of American history through exhibitions, public programs, and scholarship – inspired by the life and times of one of America’s lesser known, but nevertheless key contributors to the founding of our country, Henry Knox.
Today, Montpelier stands as a living memorial to Henry Knox, a space filled with many of the beautiful objects he purchased for his original mansion, that invites visitors to learn about the life and times of this great Patriot.
